Some resolutions
Followed are some resolutions I took recently :
1 : I have removed windows from my machine ( even when I can get as much licenses as I want. I am still Microsoft Student Partner.. being an MSP, I can directly attack MS and other MSPs, I am so mean
). Now I have Fedora and Gentoo on my machine. Yes, I know I have been preferring Ubuntu over Fedora, but I installed Fedora to give it another shot. Conley once said, Gentoo and Ubuntu has nonfree softwares in its repositories, which I agree is not good, but Gentoo is worth making that exception.
. Though I am worried about the future of Gentoo. It’s development is in big question-mark.
2 : I have stopped using copyrighted songs. I now mainly download songs from Jamendo ( jamendo streaming doesn’t work properly from IITK proxy server). And I have started using mangatune. Some guys say that we should use pirated songs to fight against copyright, but I don’t think thats a solution. That can be make a small effect on them ( as piracy is common India ) but for long run and for whole world, it will rather encourage people to listen to them, and hence to buy their songs.
3 : I try to use free file formats as much as possible. For example, I don’t plan to make any .doc document. I don’t plan to create any JPG file. My camera gives me photos in JPG format, thats an exception. I wouldn’t possess any mp3 file. All these things are under some terms and conditions, which are mainly that if my prof will ask me (rigidly) to make a doc file, I will have to. If I need to have some mp3 for my brother’s mp3 player, I will do that. But for my personal use/ease I wouldn’t use nonfree formats.
4 : No technical support for windows users.
. You may call me rude/mean but this is how it is going to be. My brother’s computer is not an exception.
5 : I will not spend money on tickets for movies. And my friends are requested not to offer me to see movies on their birthday treat / success treat etc etc.
6 : I have started using UTC. It makes me different from others, doesn’t it :D. Main reason being to avoid time zone confusions. Today, I talk to people from atleast 5 timezones, and most of them are in technical fields, so its easy for them to understand UTC. (People don’t know what UTC is)
Am I crazy? I am now free cultured. No doubt about it.
.

Jpeg is nonfree? Can you give me a reference on that? O man, what are the alternatives for large photos…png?
